Hydraulic Pump, Valves and Cylinders
Hydraulic Pumps, Valves and Cylinders - A lot of lift trucks are powered using liquid propane. While some facilities would have refuelling capabilities on site, several will have cylinders delivered to their office instead. Whenever a lift truck runs out of fuel, the cylinders are changed. A few training and cautions is essential whenever handling propane since it is a really combustible matter.
Personal Protective Equipment, or PPE, should be put on prior to filling or changing a forklift cylinder. For the reason that liquid propane is extremely cold, it could lead to burns if it comes into skin contact. Always having on thick leather gloves would help protect hands. Goggles or several standard eyewear along with a face shield is also extremely recommended. Having a fire extinguished close at hand is also suggested before the refuelling method starts.
Ensure the lift truck is turned off before beginning and extinguish whichever open flames or cigarettes in the area. Look for the fill valve on the cylinder and remove the protective plastic cover, next securely attach the fill line to the fill valve. Once the fill line is in place, carefully open the bleed valve. This will be a small spherical knob on the cylinder that is often brass coloured. A hissing sound can escape whenever the valve is open and this is normal so long as it is just air being vented and not actual propane.
Open the valve really slowly on the fill line, listening for whatever leaks. If there are no leaks, then the valve could be carefully opened. The sounds of fuel entering the tank should be easy to hear. Never leave the tank unattended when refuelling and watch the bleeder valve all through the method. A spray of white propane gas will emit from the bleeder valve as soon as the tank is full. Turn the fill valve off totally and after that close the bleeder valve. Extremely slowly and carefully take out the fill line from the tank. Watch for whichever extra gas caught in the coupling that will be expelled when the seal is broken. It must only be a small quantity of gas and is normal. Put back the protective cap on the fill valve. Double check all valves are fully closed. The tank is now set and full to use.
