Warehouse Forklift Maintenance
Having a proper maintenance program for forklifts would help to increase the lifespan of the equipment and is also a vital factor to the safe operation of the machinery. Completing forklift inspection regularly and performing preventive maintenance regularly will help to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the machinery.
Daily Checklist
In any forklift maintenance program, the daily checklist is an invaluable tool to have. These checklists would document any potential issues. They are required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration or the OSHA. The daily checklists could also be audited by OSHA during any routine inspection. Operators have to complete the inspection from the start of their shift. If any major issues are found, the forklift is not to be put into service until the problem has been fixed.
Safety and Maintenance Go Hand-in-Hand
Every year around 100 individuals are injured in forklift mishaps in the USA. Statistics show that approximately 20,000 individuals will be seriously injured because of a forklift accident. This number represents 54 individuals per day, 7 days a week, for the whole year. A lot of these mishaps could be prevented easily if the forklift had been properly maintained and serviced. In some circumstances, it may seem like a cost savings to skip or delay regular maintenance, although, these savings would pale in comparison to the cost of one accident.
Items to be Serviced
In the owner's manual of each and every machine, the manufacturer would include a maintenance schedule. These schedules will differ greatly, depending on the manufacturer and the kind of machinery. Each schedule would contain a variety of basic items. Like for example, in a combustion engine, the oil filters and the engine oil must be periodically replaced. Hydraulic levels will need to be checked also. Be certain to inspect hoses for any indications of cracking. Additional things involve the brakes, the transmission and the electrical systems of the forklift.
